I was beyond excited when I hopped on social and saw that Drake dropped a new song AND a video. I felt like I was being spoiled with music and a visual.
Drake has always been known to be passionate when it comes to women and recognizing us for the great beings that we are. He’s made tons of songs and even has notable lyrics that show his admiration for women. He’s always shouting out women especially on his social media and in his music to show his appreciation. He made songs like CeCe’s and Bria’s Interlude. Women have directly influenced and shaped who he is today especially as an artist. Drake has no qualms about letting the world know that either. I remember when he got a billboard for Rihanna to congratulate her on receiving MTV’s VMA Honor award back in 2016.
“You could birth like four of him
Girl, you never needed him”

Last week, Drake dropped the video for Nice For What, which he collaborated with Big Freedia on. Big Freedia is known for work in the New Orleans genre of hip hop called Bounce Music. He worked also worked with producers 5th Ward Webbie and Blaqnmild. The song meshed the sound of New Orleans with Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor.” I never knew I needed to hear this song until I heard it. The beat is the epitome of New Orlean’s bounce music. Very upbeat house music. Mixed with the Lauryn Hill you never would’ve thought that you’d want to shake something to.
The music video featured cameos from stars, creatives, actresses, singers, models, writers, ballerinas, and women who are simply stunning. Issa Rae, Olivia Wilde, Letitia Wright Misty Copeland, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jourdan Dunn, Rashida Jones, Yara Shahidi, Syd, Emma Roberts, Tiffany Haddish, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and twins, Elizabeth and Victoria Lejonhjärta were featured in the music video that was directed by Karena Evans. Evans also directed the video for his song, God’s Plan. The fact that the video was directed by Karena Evans, who is a multifaceted video director, actress and writer at just 22 years old was definitely the cherry on top.
I was so blown away to see women of all colors, bossed up and living their best lives while flaunting on camera as Drake raps about how he notices women’s hard work and dedication along with saying women have no reason to be nice to these men out here. It was inspiring to see women who looked like me put front and center. I loved that he took time out to make this song to celebrate women. It’ll definitely be my anthem for the summer. He gave us some recognition over a bounce music beat with a Lauryn Hill sample and slick rhymes while telling us to keep being mean to men. How can you not love Drake?! He gave an anthem and instant ego booster for the summer.
